About Us

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide commercial grade professional services at accessible rates in order to support and enrich the local music and arts culture in Northern California.

Vision Statement

EP aims to provide a quality product, technical knowledge, and a learning environment that shares its knowledge with the community. We believe that information is power and should be available equally to those who would seek it.

EP offers training in a range of technical skills, coupled with high level knowledge of the equipment. This presents opportunities for entrepreneurial minds entering into a segment of the Creative/Design Industry. Classes, internships, and open house events will serve as learning opportunities for musicians, artists, audio technicians, graphic designers, and video producers.

By taking the power of the recording industry out of the hands of the few, EP supports a growing trend in the market of professional consumer grade audio production championed by the emerging “home studio”. This trend is apparent in Chico where the university and the local culture of innovators and thinkers create new bands, artists, and technicians. EP has the full intention to be there with its doors open, to support these entrepreneurs and enrich the local and regional culture.

Our not-for-profit status allows us to offer the equipment and services to clients at competitive prices, allowing greater independence for the artists and engineers to produce their material.

Executive Summary

Energy Plant Inc. is a community centered not-for-profit corporation specializing in providing studio recording and live sound services to local and regional artists. The company is based in Chico, California. EP was conceived in July of 2010 and incorporated in July of 2011 with operations commencing in September of 2012.

The goal of Energy Plant Inc. (EP) is to provide an array of professional audio, web based, and visual media services through the framework of a not-for-profit business model; operating under the 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt category. These services are aimed at the local and regional levels of Northern California. This includes and is not limited to Chico-Butte County, Sacramento, and the San Francisco Bay Area. At present EP specializes in providing audio recording, mixing and live sound services to local artists and musicians.

The reason for pursuing a not-for-profit model is founded in EP’s desire to evolve the present music industry model. Such a business model allows EP to charge lower rates to artists, while allowing more independence for the parties involved. The ability to provide these services to artists in our community is crucial to promoting Chico’s unique local culture. Providing web based and visual graphic services alongside a musical product line offers complimentary and necessary products to artists, musicians, and local small businesses. This enables a reciprocal approach that supports the efforts of both musicians and visual artists in the area. Energy Plant is designed to be affordable, cost effective, and to deliver products of the highest quality.

The current state of the music industry is stifling musical variety by only signing bands that will yield profits and not specifically diversifying the field of art. This is detrimental to local and regional music scenes. With a change of perspective the bar for profit can be adjusted and defined as needing to fund and support the life and efforts of the artists and the supporting services required to record, distribute, and perform.

To date EP has done well to solidify its studio recording and live sound services by attracting numerous local artists, collaborating with other organizations, local music festivals, and providing tour sound. As the company grows EP intends to expand its list of services to provide a greater range of multimedia products that incorporate graphics, web design, art galleries, and video.
